K9 Bane Hero Foundation

K9 Bane and Detective Holly McManus were the first K9 team for the St. Francis Police Dept (WI). They served their community for almost 7 years before K9 Bane retired to a life of relaxation. In June 2022, K9 Bane was diagnosed with a unforgiving and terminal disease called Degenerative Myelopathy (DM). DM is very similar to ALS in humans, and will eventually take Bane's life. When K9 Bane was diagnosed, Det. McManus wanted to ensure his legacy lived on after he crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Through fundraising Det. McManus paid for all of K9 Bane's medical bills. She also dedicated the K9 Legacy Monument, featuring a life-size K9 Bane, to the community.

Now, she wants to help other handlers whose best friends may face a similar fate. She created and funded the K9 Bane Hero Foundation, and is now raising money and support to help K9 handers and their working K9s navigate health and wellness as the approach and enter retirement. The Foundation also seeks to promote responsible breeding and DNA testing to help eradicate hereditary diseases like DM. By partnering with other non-profits, the K9 Bane Hero Foundation will help ensure that working K9s' legacies live on. "Every Hero Deserves a Legacy"
